Fashion Week

I'm going to try (key word try) to catch-up on my blogging this week.

I took this straight from the blog of BeautiControl's Product and Development Gary Jones. So the I here is Gary not me.

Big News! BeautiControl In the Spotlight at Fashion Week in NYC

Ok…so I have some REALLY exciting news to share with everyone. I got a call last week from the VP of public relations at Tupperware about an amazing opportunity for BeautiControl to participate in Fashion Week in NYC this coming weekend. Not only will I be attending an exclusive fashion show by Irina Shabayeva, winner of season six of Project Runway, but BeautiControl will be providing ALL of the makeup for the show.

There is a huge list of celebrities that will be attending the show, although I can’t tell you who just yet. We even created some extra-special goody bags for some of the more notorious celebrities who will join me backstage. I put together a really cool gift in the event that I run into Sarah Jessica Parker…one of my all-time favorite celebrities (besides, of course Ali Landry).

There is a celebrity make-up artist and hair stylist that will be conducting interviews with the press and will feature BeautiControl as their “makeup of choice”. I will be backstage with a film crew to capture the excitement and will be sure to share with everyone through my blog and Facebook page when I get back next week.

Below you will find the official press release about the event:

Irina Shabayeva Previous Project Runway Winner Debuts Fall 2010 Collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City

Shabayeva Uses Tupperware(R) Materials in Flight-Inspired Collection

Irina Shabayeva, the season six winner of Project Runway, will debut her Fall 2010 collection on Saturday,
February 13th during New York's world-renowned Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The show will take place at SIR Stage 37 (508 West 37th Street) from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a runway presentation starting promptly at 7:30 p.m. (informal modeling will follow from 8:00-9:00p.m.). Inspired by the evolution of flight, the Fall collection will pay homage to The Da Vinci Glider, Amelia Earhart, and wings from our most natural fliers - exotic birds from around the world.

Shabayeva's Fall collection is a delicate balance between the ethereal and the industrial while incorporating materials from Tupperware® - one of America's most beloved brands and the winner of numerous design awards, including several prestigious Red Dot Awards. This unusual collaboration inspired Shabayeva to create looks that manipulate plastic into modern day ready to wear. She will debut five pieces using Tupperware® materials, in addition to many accessories on the runway.

Shabayeva isn't new to experimenting with alternative materials. In Challenge #5 of Project Runway, Shabayeva created a couture dress out of newspaper. In earlier collections she designed a wire corset and a series of plexiglass hats.

"This collection is about the fantasy of flight and liberation," said Shabayeva. "It's about finding what liberates you."

"When we saw Irina on Project Runway, we were simply in awe of her of talent and vision," said Tupperware Brands' Chairman and CEO Rick Goings. "As a company that has long been focused on innovative design, we're thrilled to work with someone who is so forward-thinking and whose work is inspiring and empowering."

Highlights from the Fall collection include intricate hand-painted prints, feather dresses and custom made hats. One of Shabayeva's signatures is mixing exotics with clean silhouettes, so look for luxurious fabrications with flawless tailoring. Hand-knit sweater coats will be paired with cut-out leathers, wool and elegant fur trims. The finale will be a flutter of feathers, hand-beaded embellishments and embroidery.
